Human organ transplant center to be built in Macedonia

SKOPJE, Jan. 8 (Xinhua) -- Macedonian Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski Friday said that Macedonia will have a transplant center within the Skopje General Hospital in the near future.

The Macedonian government has approved a law on establishing a transplant center and adopted a program on kidney, heart and liver transplant.

According to Gruevski, the most complex surgeries of organ and tissue transplantation will be performed in the transplant center, and the transplant clinic will have a department of surgery, department of anesthesia, laboratory, etc.

Gruevski noted that this center will have the potential to attract patients from the neighboring countries in the region.

The Macedonian transplant center will be managed by members of the Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts, top professionals, doctors and scientists with a budget estimated at over one million euros (about 1.09 million U.S. dollars).
