Chinese tourists have spent some US$7.2 billion overseas during the Spring Festival period, 15 percent higher than the anticipation figure and setting a historical high, the Beijing Times reported.
The World Luxury Association's statistic report said Chinese have become the group that has the strongest purchasing power to pocket luxury items during holidays in foreign countries.
The report also found Europe had the best attraction to Chinese customers, which has claimed 46 percent of the US$7.2 billion spending, whereas North America took 19 percent, and regions of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan combined for 35 percent.
Deluxe watches, leatherwear, fashionable dresses and cosmetic products are the most sought after items for Chinese customers travelling abroad, according to the report.
Most customers who made such holiday purchase abroad think the lower prices are the most important factor, adding that a larger variety is also a consideration, and buying luxury items is a main objective of their trips.
There are others who noted better services in foreign countries and localized products also contributed to their decisions to purchase.
