South China to face snow, rain

BEIJING - China's meteorological authority said Sunday that rain and snow will fall in the country's southern regions over the next 24 hours, while a cold front will slash central and east China.

Northwest China and regions south of the Huaihe River will see light rain and snow from January 29 to 30, while sleet or moderate snow will hit the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, the China Meteorological Administration (CMA) said.

Central parts of Guizhou Province will experience icy rain, the CMA said in a statement on its website.

A weak cold front will hit the country's central and eastern regions over the next 24 hours, decreasing temperatures by four to six degrees Celsius, the CMA said.

Meanwhile, gales will sweep the East China Sea, the Taiwan Straits and the South China Sea, the CMA said.
