Between you and me and the post, I have been promised promotion in the New Year. （告诉你，老板答应新年给我提升职位了。你可先给我保密啊。）
between you and me and the post，指不要公开某事，你知道我知道就行了。后面的三个字and the post可以省去，也可以改成and the gate-post，也可以改成and the bed-post。 the gate-post是大门柱，形容消息不要出门；the bed-post 是床柱，引喻消息只有夫妻两个知道，故对不是配偶的异性，最好不用the bed-post。
在多数情况下，使用语言贵在短小精悍，所以一般用between you and me就足够了，但如果后面的话你还未考虑好，就可以加上and the post三个字，由此争取到两、三秒钟宝贵的时间以便考虑如何说下去，而不会给人留下说话断续的形象。
