AU healthcare workers arrive in Liberia

MONROVIA, Dec. 6 (Xinhua) -- An Africa Union-backed 76-member Nigerian medical contingent, comprising nurses and doctors, has arrived in Liberia as part of the response to Ebola Virus Disease eradication in the country.
The Nigerian medical team, which arrived in the country on Friday, was welcomed by the Nigerian Ambassador to Liberia, Chigozie Obi-Nnadozie.
Maj. Gen. Dr. Julius F. Oketta, head of the AU's support to Ebola in West Africa, said the team will help Liberia in its Ebola response and the gesture is a mark of African solidarity.
He said team is in Liberia to address the latest pockets of transmissions across the country.
The Nigeria Ebola response staff will be assigned in Ebola Treatment Units (ETUs) in rural parts of Liberia that have shown pockets of the virus.
Liberia's Chief of Protocol Rufus Neufville was at the airport to welcome the team.
